Today, May 9th, 2015, is National Drone Day, a day celebrating ambient, experimental, and drone music in Canada. I took this “holiday” as a chance to get a little bit experimental, and released a piece of guitar-based ambient drone music called “Refuge.” All of the guitars in this piece were recorded in one take using a loop pedal, and the synth and electric piano were overdubbed later. The piece is based on the idea of resisting fear, even though the world around you seems terrifying.
“Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way
and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea,
though its waters roar and foam
and the mountains quake with their surging.” – Psalm 46:2-3
The track is available for streaming and purchase on Bandcamp, and should be available on iTunes, Spotify, Tidal, and just about every other streaming/digital download service within the next few days.
